Judy Gawlik Brown’s career spans over 25 years as an operating executive in Finance and General Management and over 15 years as an independent board director. Judy’s portfolio of work spans leadership of finance, marketing, strategy and corporate affairs teams across consumer healthcare, biotechnology and manufacturing companies in the US, Germany and Italy. Her abilities to enhance an organization’s strategy and drive value creation were evidenced by her inclusion on Institutional Investor and the Wall Street Journal’s best CFOs lists several years running.
Judy Brown has been actively engaged in governance for many years, both as an executive officer of Perrigo and Amgen as well as concurrent public board service. She is currently an independent director for Belden Inc. (NYSE: BDC), where she has served since 2008. She is the chair of their Finance Committee and member of the Audit Committee and has overseen multiple CEO transitions, portfolio transformation and leadership team evolution.
As a strategic operating executive, Judy served 11 years as the CFO of Perrigo, where she was a significant contributor to the company’s growth and profitability. She led Perrigo’s worldwide business operations including finance and accounting, strategy, corporate development, IT, investor relations, treasury, tax, government affairs, risk management and corporate communications as the company grew from <$1B in primarily domestic revenue to a global corporation of 13,000 employees in 35 countries with revenue of >$6B. She was instrumental in driving, executing and integrating approximately 27 merger and acquisition transactions and scaling processes and talent to enable such rapid transformation.
Most recently, Judy was on the executive team at Amgen, where she demonstrated her ability to inspire employees, transform teams and navigate new horizons first as the leader of their global business solutions organization and later as the head of corporate affairs, which encompassed communications, philanthropy, patient advocacy and corporate responsibility. Earlier in her career she worked in product development, marketing and finance roles within Whirlpool Corporation in the US and Italy and spent eight years providing audit and assurance services in Germany and the US at EY LLP.
Judy is an active advisor to MannaTree Partners, which is focused on investing in innovative companies that improve human health through nutrition and serves on the Board of Directors of Infinant Health on their behalf. In addition, she serves on the advisory board of MAHA Global, a reputation intelligence platform that unifies company behavior and public perception in real time.
Other governance experience includes numerous years on civic and nonprofit boards. Currently, Judy serves on the board of trustees of Viewpoint School, a K-12 independent school in southern California. She has led the Finance Committee through a particularly transformational period, establishing a strong fiscal foundation for planned future growth. Additionally, she serves on the advisory board of the USC Annenberg School of Communications Center for Public Relations. Judy sat on the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles board of directors and was Co-chair to the CFO Advisory Board of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Ms. Brown holds an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business and a BS in Accountancy from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a Certified Public Accountant and AICPA member.
